Physiological Foundation of Infrared Imaging: Infrared Imaging is a neurovascular, functional, physiological evaluation tool. These images of the skin temperature are most commonly portrayed with a colored pallet consistent with the colors of the rainbow. White-red is the highest temperature and black-violet is the lowest temperature. Skin is regulated primarily by a part of the brain called the hypothalamus that also regulates blood supply to every muscle, organ and gland. Changes in blood flow to that body part produces a corresponding skin response consistent with how that body part is being affected. Infrared Imaging demonstrates a functional and or improper functional dysfunctional autonomic automatic evaluation involving multiple body systems at the same time.
What is considered Infrared norm: In 1969 Sumio Uematsu, M.D. researched established what our relative normal skin temperature should be at the John Hopkin’s University. When comparing body’s temperature from one side to the opposite region, it was found .3 degrees Celsius or greater was significant.
Infrared Camera Quality: The data for this examination were acquired using an infrared sensitive camera. Image resolution is 320x240 or 640x480 converted to PDF/JPEG format.
Procedure: Subject has undergone a standardized prep-protocols prior to thermal examinations. Upon imaging they’re partially disrobed and have underwent a environmental acclimation period, then a serial real-time imaging was performed in a temperature-controlled environment ranging between 20-22 degrees Celsius. Images are done in an 8x8x10 foot room without drafts, while maintaining within a 1-degree temperature throughout the study. Humidity is kept within 25-50%. Fluorescent lighting was used while windows are covered to avoid solar infrared thermal artifacts on the images.
Study Outcome: This study provides an adjunctive clinical information with recommendations based solely upon the images and the Subject’s information provided. Reporting can be used as supportive data for their physician for a health evaluation and management.
